Shubh Muhurat Finder · शुभ मुहूर्त खोजें
Choose an event. The tool checks each day’s tithi, nakshatra, weekday, Bhadra and Rahu Kaal to find auspicious days and times. It also accounts for Chaturmas, Kharmas, Adhik Maas and days when Venus or Jupiter is combust.
How to read the panchang
A Hindu panchang has five elements: tithi (the angle between the Moon and the Sun, one tithi for every 12°), nakshatra (which of the 27 lunar mansions the Moon is in), yoga (the combined motion of the Sun and Moon), karana (half a tithi) and vaar (the weekday). A panchang day begins at sunrise, so the tithi stays the same even when the calendar date changes at midnight.
Rahu Kaal, Yamaganda and Gulika
The time from sunrise to sunset is divided into 8 equal parts. One part each weekday is Rahu Kaal (the 2nd on Monday, the 8th on Sunday). Starting new work during this time is avoided. Because day length changes with the season and the city, Rahu Kaal is different in every city.
Abhijit Muhurat
The 8th of the 15 muhurtas of the day, about 48 minutes around midday. It is considered good for almost any auspicious work, but Abhijit is not used on Wednesdays.
Choghadiya
Day and night are each divided into 8 parts, named Amrit, Shubh, Labh, Char, Udveg, Kaal or Rog. Amrit, Shubh and Labh are considered good; Char is fine for travel; Udveg, Kaal and Rog are avoided. Choghadiya is followed widely in Gujarat and Maharashtra for business and travel.
How the Muhurat Finder works
For each event, the scriptures consider certain nakshatras, tithis and weekdays auspicious. For a wedding, for example, the nakshatras are Rohini, Mrigashira, Magha, Uttara Phalguni, Hasta, Swati, Anuradha, Mula, Uttara Ashadha, Uttara Bhadrapada and Revati. The tool applies these rules to every day and only shows times when all three are favourable together, with no Bhadra and (for daytime events) no Rahu Kaal.
This tool does not consider the lagna (the rising sign at that moment) or the couple’s horoscopes. For a big event like a wedding, confirm the time with your pandit ji based on the kundli before fixing the date.
Frequently asked questions
Why do tithi times differ slightly between websites?
Every panchang calculates a little differently (ayanamsa, definition of sunrise). This tool uses the Lahiri (Chitrapaksha) ayanamsa, the most widely used in India, and takes sunrise as the moment the Sun’s upper edge becomes visible. So the difference from other good panchangs is usually 1–2 minutes.
What is the difference between Amanta and Purnimanta months?
In Amanta, the month ends on Amavasya (Gujarat, Maharashtra, South India). In Purnimanta, it ends on Purnima (North India). The Shukla paksha has the same month name in both; in Krishna paksha the Purnimanta month is one ahead.
Why are there no weddings during Chaturmas?
The four months from Devshayani Ekadashi (Ashadha Shukla 11) to Devuthani Ekadashi (Kartik Shukla 11) are called Chaturmas. Traditionally, weddings, griha pravesh and mundan are not held in these months. The tool removes these days automatically.
What is Kharmas?
When the Sun is in Dhanu or Meena rashi (about 15 Dec–14 Jan and 14 Mar–13 Apr), the period is called Kharmas. Weddings and griha pravesh are not held during this time.
